Sunday 13th August

Today we see the last day of individual competitions in Chilliwack and the first team match. The morning weather was somewhat of a change from the last few days with heavy rain having fallen overnight and a constant light drizzle foretasted until mid morning. Waterproofs were the order of the day and the rain had at least brought some relief from the smokey haze that we have seen since we arrived.

As the weather cleared through the morning the familiar clear blue skies and mountain views returned and by the afternoon we were enjoying some glorious sunshine.

"RickTodays matches on the individual front consisted of two shoots at 600x both 2&15, the first had been resquadded in line with positions in the Grand Agg so the GB team largely made up the second detail. In the Life Governors Match scoring continued to be high with Jon Underwood counting out Rick and Angus on 75.13 and many more of the team making 75’s. Following a resquadding again for the final match (the Norm Beaton) in order for the leaders from the Lt Govenors to be put together the wind had decided to become somewhat fickle and just flicking in from the right with the occasional gust. Most targets had finished and gathered behind targets 9 and 10 where – Rick, Jon U, Nigel, Angus, Ed D and Ian were shooting. A tense wait for the final scores ensued with Chloe setting the clubhouse lead finishing on only 1 point off.

"AngusAs the final shots went down it became apparent that Rick, Nigel and Jon had all dropped at least 2 and attention turned to Angus who slotted a 75.5 in the tricky conditions to take the Lt Governors Prize by a single V-bull from Chloe in 2nd place. What a close run competition and with so many putting in fine performances we were well set for the team matches to come.

"AngusThe traditional chairing of the winner (a thankfully short distance) was followed by a quick lunch break and time to get into team mode for the afternoon. Wind conditions continued to be changeable and reading the correct mirage downrange proved critical. The Captain’s team emerged victorious only dropping 2 points (Weeden, Shouler, Craig & Rose) beating Reg’s team into second place with 4 off.

When the sun shines at Chilliwack the backdrop is stunning as was the selection of trophies on offer at the prize giving! For a regional prize meeting there is an incredible number and variety of trophies. In short GBRT won all the TR trophies we were eligible for with one exception the Norm Beaton which was won by Gary Rasmussen from the USA.

"TeamIn the concurrent Team matches GBRT Red (Reg, Dave, Jon U and Ben) won 6 of the matches, and Ben managed to coax a noise out of the bugle awarded for one of them. I will not list all the competitions here (please see the Facebook pictures of the prize lists as there are too many to list here) but in the Main competitions, Rick took the BCRA Open championship by a point with Sandy, Jon, Dave and Chloe closing out the top 5. Angus of course won the Lt Governors followed by Chloe, Rick, Nigel and Jon.

Tomorrow we have the team match with GB vs. Canada vs. USA
