Monday 3rd August

With the American Hi –Power matches behind us it is now Day 1 of the US Fullbore Championships.

This means no more decimal targets; we are on ICFRA and most importantly no more Pit Duty—Hurrah. The other bonus is that sighters are now convertible.

Departure for the range was delayed almost indefinitely as car keys and house keys were missing, locked inside Reggie’s abode. The veranda door was found to be ajar and thanks to Spiderman Chris, all keys were rescued, house secured and the happy shooters headed for the range.

After a brief warm-up led by out two intrepid Physios (Jackie & Zoe) the first match of the day was 2 + 15 at 300yds, short range at last! With gentle winds it was going to be high scoring and so it was. Plenty of 75s coming off on all details and tie shoots on the cards. Steve East tied for 3rd place with four others all scoring 75.12. The new paid markers had to learn quickly as there were many calls of ‘mark target’, but things soon ran smoothly.

Falling back to 600, another 2+15 but this time the wind was fickle for some and scores dipped. As the day wore on the humidity rose, thanks in no small way to the thunderstorm last night. The winds started to fishtail with some details using little wind whilst others were up to 4 minutes left and two right. James Watson and Matt Millar are tied for third spot with 75.10 (along with three others).

Lunch break then followed; yes you read correctly we had the first lunch break of the meeting, no more eating on the fly. Final shoot of the day was 900yds 2+15 to complete in effect a George’s 1,2 & 3.

With ever changing winds both in direction and speed it was going to be interesting. Some shooters had little or no wind to contend with whilst others had to wind fast or wait out the gusts and fishtails. David Luckman tied for second place (75.12) and Tom Drysdale tied for third (75.11).

The results for the day can be found at http://competitions.nra.org/perryscores/default.aspx?mid=674 Matt Millar was our high man, placed 3rd after scoring 225 ex 225 and David Luckman placed 5th one point behind. Others one point down include Nigel Ball, Tom Drysdale, John Pugsley (GB Veterans), the late Parag Patel, David Rose and our own captain: Jane Messer.
