Day 7 – Thu 23rd March – Individual day 1

Day 7 of the GB Rifle Team tour to South Africa – and today began much like any other day on tour, awoken to beautiful sunshine, soaring temperatures and an amazing correlation between age of tourer and at what time they turn up for breakfast (I’ll leave you to figure out which way is which).
Today would be the same as yesterday for the team, practice individual shoots at 300, 600, 800 and 900M. However, our wise and mighty management team had given us the option of skipping the morning shoots (300 and 600 metres) and starting for 800m and 900m in the afternoon. The vast majority of the team therefore took this invitation up with open arms, enjoying the delights of a lie in, prepping for the afternoon and practising hoisting the Union flag in preparation for our team matches – not as easy as it would seem!
Most of the team arrived at the range for lunch time, meeting up with the keen beans who had decided to participate in the morning. Today on the range was much the same as yesterday, but with more wind (cheers of joy from our wind coaches ensued – and groans from our shooters).

When the dust had settled (which was easier as it actually rained a bit today!)

It was our Captain Fantastic (Nick Tremlett) who lead the way, scoring an excellent 99.7 out of 100.20 – in some very difficult conditions that was an excellent shoot.
The evening was spent for the official “meet and greet” where the team got to catch up and mingle with the opposing teams, and indeed old friends from shooting.

Tomorrow the team is split into teams to compete in the Rifle Club Matches. We have a enough teammates as members of the English XX rifle club, the Surrey Rifle Club and the North London rifle club so we will be fielding 3 teams – and this triple threat match will surely be a close encounter considering the way the team has settled into South African conditions so far. The team has the official opening ceremony tomorrow morning as well, so a much earlier start is scheduled for the team tomorrow, but as usual you will be able to keep up to date on all our social media streams and website!
See you tomorrow!

Well done Nick on leading the way. Trust this inspires everyone to team winning performances.

Bucketed down here in Johannesburg yesterday late afternoon, so hope it keeps dry for you this weekend.
