Great Britain Rifle Team

Canada 2025

Borden, Ontario, Canada

Tour Diary, Day 2 (Three different approaches to acclimatisation - 07/08/2025)

By Sasha Radkovskii

The team’s day began with a leisurely breakfast before our first team briefing in Canada.

GB tour badges were awarded and new cap numbers announced by the Captain, followed by a quick briefing by the Adjutant before we split off to reclaim kit from team bags and check over our rifles after the flight the day before.

The rest of the morning was spent with a quick trip to the local mall for supplies, after which the team split into three groups.

The first of these groups had a quick lunch and then headed off to the local climbing wall for an afternoon of bouldering, competitive edges were brought out for the first time this tour as they challenged each other to more and more adventurous routes. They had the pleasure of experiencing rush hour traffic in Quebec City on their way home.

Group two took a swim in the hotel pool before heading out to brave the 30 degree heat (and lack of pavements) to find the riverside boulevard and complete a 5 mile walk along it. Views from the observation tower were well worth the climb, but the return journey brought dismay as they had to climb uphill all the way back to the hotel and discovered just how much sugar is in vitamin water.

The third group enjoyed an appropriate lunch of poutine in the local Irish pub before heading out to see the centre of Quebec City. The 310 steps to the top of the Citadel were climbed with minimal complaint, and the group were treated with views of the surrounding city and landscape at the end of their climb.

With each group satisfied with their day’s exploration, all reconvened for a delicious dinner at the local steak house, before heading back to the hotel to turn in for the night, but not before sampling some Welsh liquid gold procured by the Vice Captain in Duty Free.

Stay tuned for Day 3…
