Day 3 – Rest Day

Rosanne Furniss

The first of three rest days for the team, this was much looked forward to and needed after the travel marathon of the weekend. By 07:42 (05:42 for our body clocks) the Captain had not only done 40 minutes of Pilates but messaged us all to humble brag. Subliminal messaging ignored, the majority of the team started with a lie in and lazy breakfast.

By mid-morning, the actual tasks of today were beginning with a trip to the range to collect the remainder of the ammunition. Rifles were reassembled to check everything had survived the trip. It turns out the other advantage of disassembling everything is you become aware of problems you never knew you had, for some of us discovering that both main and spare rifles needed work! At least we know Graham will have 2 functioning triggers for the rest of the tour. Trips to the mall to stock up on toiletries (sacrificed from packing weight) and snacks were next. Bus groups collected their ammo allocation, lens cleaning sets and sanitising materials, then ammunition was sorted and allocated, and pool time could start.

Sadly the weather had other plans; having wasted the morning sunshine on jobs, the clouds rolled in and thunderstorms began with a spectacular lightning storm in the mid-afternoon. The fabulous physio team managed to relocate our first stretching session to save us from the rain, as well as starting their treatments as we recover from the aches and pains of the long haul flight.

We then split into cohorts for dinner, with the diarists joining the group to New York for our first of many steaks in the next few weeks; there are some perks to being on tour! With the majority of team prep tasks now complete, tomorrow is a free day before we kick off on Wednesday with our first team briefings and official dinner.
