Shooting kit, check. Ammo box, check. 5.30am alarm, check….. Wait. Today was a day where the team needed none of the above and had a day to do whatever they chose – cue lie ins, hangovers and white water rafting!
As per usual with a team of c. 20 individuals, there were a range of activities organised throughout the day. These included white water rafting, a trip to hells gate (big river and cable car), golf, pool time and for those that needed it, a few work emails.
Those that chose the white water rafting had an early start and were off before most of the team had surfaced but it was worth it. The rapids were impressive and fast but so was the safety briefing that scared most of the party… However, Birty was not be put off as 30 seconds into the first kayak run he was submerged, took no further part and had to be picked out of the water like a fisherman looking for his first salmon. This didn’t deter everyone from having a thoroughly enjoyable time and thankfully all came back in one piece.
Those that went to Hells Gate (big river and cable car) also had an enjoyable time. There was the opportunity to wander around a fish museum, have a long lunch and have a very refreshing swim in a nearby fresh water lake. A welcome break from a long day of shooting!
The afternoon saw a group attend what can only be described as a the most highly anticipated event of the tour; the GBRT US Open – 18 holes of putting drama. The level of competition was high as Paul Wheeler took the first 9 with a classy 2 under only for the latest rookie, Dave Rose to steal the show with a unbelievable back 9 finishing with a round of 69. Cue endless innuendos. Other notable performances were Ed Dickenson on 4 over par, Tom Rylands on 5 over and Paul Wheeler on 6 over.
As those reading can tell, today was a day where there was lots going on – a welcome break from the previous days of tiring competition. In 2 days time the team will be heading to the east coast and the DCRA where the level of intensity will increase but in the meantime GBRT will make the most of having a few days off in beautiful British Columbia. Boy, have they earned it.
