Day 9 – Epic Road Trip Part Deux. Halifax to Quebec

Monday 8th August 2022

The second of our two long road trips began by reloading all the luggage into the vehicles, with the addition of 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Now packed to the gunwhales we set off on the 9 hour drive to Quebec City.

After coercing the SatNav into driving the correct route up and over the tip of Maine, rather than crossing the border into America, it reported 1033 km of open road ahead of us. (Trivia time: How many US states are completely south of Canada? Read on for the answer…*)

As before, we went our separate ways (with an obligatory stop for road trip timbits) with some deciding to detour past the more abstract tourist attractions including various ‘worlds somethingest something’, (including, it would appear, ‘Worlds Dirtiest McDonalds’) while others preferred a more direct drive. We assume nobody told Martin Townsend about The Lobster Centre of New Brunswick, else he may not have been first to arrive at our hotel in QC.

518 litres of fuel later, the whole team was reassembled at the Doubletree hotel in Quebec City by 8pm. With four days of very hot shooting behind us, and three days of downtime ahead of us, it’s about time to find a laundrette. Except for Martin. He ordered lobster.

(*Only 23 US states are wholly south of Canada, whose southernmost tip is at 41’41N)
