Day 7

Toby Little

Today saw the first day of competition with shooters from around the world shooting the Free State championship, which consisted of shoots at 300M, 600M, 800M and 900M.

The team made it to the range with plenty of time to hear the morning prayers lead by the legendary General Mac and a warning about Puff Adders before starting at 300M. Scores were high at this range with top scores of fifty from Henry, Toby C, Toby L, Miles and Jemima.

600M proved to be a much more difficult range not only due to the harsh wind conditions and heat but also as we were shooting on the significantly smaller 900M F-Class target. Despite this scores remained competitive with the full palma team.

After lunch the team went to long range starting at 800M where the team had another taste of the rapid wind changed the General De Wet offers. The top scores went to Toby L with a 47.4 and George with a 46.03.

900M was again difficult and in the peak of the days heat at 34 celsius. Despite this several of the team shot extremely well with Miles topping the scores with a 48.4 quickly followed by Jemima with a 47.2.

Prize giving followed giving the team the opportunity to socialise with some of the other Under 25 teams. The highlight of the whole day however was George getting a medal in the Under 25 long range aggregate!
