Day 9

Miles Horton-Baker

The Grand Aggregate kicked off today and so a few buses ventured to the range slightly early in order to get acquainted with what turned out to be a rather fickle wind. The first match was the Free State Cup which was 10 counting shots at 300m and 11 counting shots at 600m, a bit different to the our normal courses of fire at Bisley! Congratulations to Luca on placing 19th, the highest in the team, with a 105.8.

The afternoon followed with the President’s Cup which was 10 shots at both 800 and 900m. The wind, which had been providing a cooling breeze over the past few days, had died down by this point in the day which made conditions in our leather shooting jackets very sweaty! Luca, again, top scored the team with a 96.5, placing him 32nd out of a field of 311 shooters.

With a swift finish, we packed up the buses and headed back to the hotel for a very refreshing dip in the pool before a team dinner at the local pizzeria.

Today also happened to be the deadline for team selection for our upcoming Protea and World Championships matches and so there was tension in the air as people put their best foot forward. Stay tuned for updates when the team is released!
