Nick Tremlett
GM SB
Nick started shooting before most of this team were born, and first competed at international level in 1976. Dabbling in both Target Rifle and Match Rifle, Nick has won the H.M. Queen’s Prize and the Hopton, and a few other trophies along the way. He was Captain of the undefeated GB team to South Africa in 2017, a tour during which he also won the State President prize for the 2nd time.
2024 will be Nick’s eighth visit to Bloemfontein, and he was a member of the last GB Palma team to compete there, in 1999, along with six other members of the current team.
He has a fascination in long range ballistics and has played an instrumental role in the development of the GB team’s ammunition for this Palma tour; creating a load to overcome the particular ballistic challenges presented by a combination of Bloemfontein’s altitude and high daytime temperatures.
Jon Kent
Jon started his shooting career at Epsom College in 1999, qualifying for the final of the H.M. Queen’s Prize during his second Imperial Meeting the following year. Individual highlights include winning the 2022 Palma and Stickledown Aggregates at Bisley.
Jon’s previous overseas tours include Australia and Canada with the Great Britain U25s and the 2011 GB team to Canada and 2023 GB team to South Africa. He has been a member of the winning teams in both the Under 21 and Under 25 World Championships matches, in 2003 and 2007 respectively. This will be Jon’s third shooting tour to South Africa and he is thrilled to be returning to Bloemfontein again to represent GB on his first Palma tour.
When not shooting Jon can be found running his company, intheOffice. In his spare time he loves travelling with his wife and cycling.
Under 25s
Toby Little
Toby started shooting at Gresham’s School at the age of 14 after breaking his nose playing rugby. Under the watchful eye of Freddie Grounds he became Captain of the school team in his final year and was selected for the 2017 Athelings (with Harriet as his Captain) and in 2019 the GB U19 team to South Africa. Toby is also very proud to represent Wales, having shot every National Match since 2018, and Norfolk county, for whom he first represented while at school.
This will be his third trip to South Africa having also travelled with GB U25 in 2023 and his second World Championships, after going to New Zealand with the GB U21s. He is really looking forward to meeting international friends on the range once again, and competing at the highest level against the best in the world.
Under 21s
James Burch
James started shooting fullbore with the Royal Marines Cadets in 2019, joining the UKCRT the following year; a tour that was sadly cancelled due to COVID. He later toured to Jersey with the Athelings in 2021, and Guernsey as Captain of the GB U19 team in 2023, winning the Guernsey Grand Aggregate. Recently, James has represented Somerset in various county matches, and has shot with the GB U25s in non-capped events.
Since all of James’s tours have been affected by travel restrictions, mainly due to COVID, he is really excited to finally have the opportunity to tour outside of Europe for the first time!
Outside of shooting, James enjoys playing guitar, skiing and running. He is currently in his first year of a Physics Degree at the University of Nottingham, where he is hoping to help the university rifle club get underway.
Veterans
Charles Brooks
Charles has been a regular overseas tourer, starting 50 years ago with the Athelings team to Canada (with Veterans teammate, Webbie), followed by seven official GB overseas tours.
Charles is well connected with overseas shooters at Bisley having been Secretary and Captain of the British Commonwealth Rifle Club and is now its President. This will be Charles’ second tour to South Africa after he led the GB Veterans Goodwill team to Bloemfontein last year.
Charles is married to Penny with two grown up children and one grandchild with another on the way, all of whom have had to suffer his life at Bisley! Since retiring as a partner of his law firm three years ago, Charles is now a (very) part-time consultant to the firm and keeps himself busy with a City of London Livery Company and with non-exec board roles with two long-standing charity clients.
David Young
Mostly to be seen shooting indoors at Salford and outdoors at Altcar and Huddersfield ranges, David still practices as an Architect and has designed indoor ranges including Salford 25m and Wigan 25m/50m, the latter being used for national training.
David is married to Marion whom he met at his University rifle club, and two of their four children, Bruce & Stuart, also compete. Having decided to spend much less time working, he has recently completed two GB tours to Canada. This will be his first GB Veterans excursion.
With 17 the H.M Queen’s Final badges, one the H.M. King’s Final badge and representation of England in the National & Mackinnon and Great Britain in the Commonwealth, Canada & America matches, he is looking forward to shooting in South Africa for the first time.
