Day 18

Alice Good

Today was the penultimate day of individual shooting here in Bloemfontein.

The course of fire was 2 and 15s at 700, 800 and 900 metres. The morning started with very steady winds, with the majority of shots hitting the bull and v-bull. 75s were achieved by Jemima, Toby C, Christina, Tom and our captain Harriet.

800 metres was a little more interesting, owing to the cloud cover and changing light conditions. A few lost points to elevation (something we try to avoid as shooters) as a result of this, while others preemptively came down a click when the cloud cover came over. 75s were lacking from the whole of GB at this range, but congratulations must go to Alice, for one of only two 75s from GB, placing her third on the range with a 75.7 (the other being Jeremy Tuck with 75.9, well done!).

900 metres provided difficult wind and changing light conditions. Some slightly loose bedding bolts and dodgy wind calls meant some of the scores at this range were a little lower, although respectable when compared to the spread of scores through the range.

A few of the shooters are so tired that they took a trip to Starbucks for a caffeine hit when they arrived back from the range, while others sat in the bath having their hair cut by some very inexperienced hairdressers.

Having been very jealous of Christina’s poke bowl from a couple of nights ago (and her endless requests for a revisit), most of the team made their way to Cape Town Fish Market with a few of the U25 South Africans.
