GBRT Canada 2013

Andy Barnes

Andy or ‘Turbo’ as he is mostly known around Bisley camp (why? If he knows he’s not saying), began his shooting career in 1981 at Bedford School under the instruction of Tim Elliott. In the intervening years he has only missed one Imperial Meeting. During this time he has had a sprinkling of individual successes having won the Donaldson Memorial, Wimbledon and Stickledown (twice), as well as representations for England in the National and Lawrence matches.

Turbo is the long suffering secretary of the Bedfordians Rifle Club, a job he describes as trying to herd cats! In order to try and find some relaxation from trying to organise his fellow club members, Andy recently switched counties and has started to shoot for Hertfordshire, something he wishes he had done earlier (but they possibly don’t?).

He is a ‘born again virgin’ when it comes to GB tours,  his first having taken place exactly 20 years ago to South Africa, when funnily enough, Chris Hockley was also vice-captain.  He is immensely looking forward to re-engaging at top level and is looking forward to his first trip to Canada.

Away from shooting, Turbo is married with two sporty daughters that keeps Dad’s Taxi service busy ferrying them between gymnastics, football and various dance activities. He works as a regional business manager for a pharmaceutical company. When not working, shooting or acting as taxi driver,  Andy enjoys fishing of any sort and admits to being a little disappointed there will be no time during this intensive two week tour to try some sturgeon fishing on the famous Fraser river.
